We built Fastmail to be lightning quick from the bottom up. Fast is in our name for a reason.

How do we make it so speedy? It starts with our custom-designed servers, carefully specified to maximise performance. All data is stored on enterprise-grade, super-fast NVME solid state drives, serviced by powerful CPUs and hundreds of gigabytes of RAM for each machine.

On top of this runs the Cyrus email server. As lead maintainers, we’ve designed a multi-layer caching system to make optimal use of this powerful hardware, so your email is not just fast when you have ten messages, but stays fast even if you have a million. Our full text search index allows even complex queries to return results quickly and accurately, so you can find what you need and get on with your day.

You get all this speed no matter which email client you choose to use, but we go even further with our own app and webmail. Adaptive preloading and optimistic updates for latency compensation make almost every action instant.
